Home visits are available to patients if it is clinically indicated and their condition prevents them from attending the surgery. These arrangements can be made by prior arrangement with the Doctors/Nurses or the Practice Manager and will not always be on the same day as the request is made.
All patients in residential aged care facilities are visited monthly and more often as their condition indicates or the facility staff request an urgent review.
Doctors may be contacted during normal office hours, however we are unable to put every call through immediately if they are consulting.
Our staff will pass on the message via our internal messaging system and the Doctor will return your call as soon as possible, dependent on time constraints.
If your problem is urgent and you are ill you may consider speaking to the practice nurse.
The Practice Nurses at Hillside Family Practice are all registered nurses with comprehensive clinical experience working across many areas of surgical and medical nursing. The nurses are able to speak with you on the telephone or in the surgery if you have health concerns.
They work under the direction of and in conjunction with the Doctors
and provide support for procedures;
Immunisation’s (for children, occupational health and travel medicine),
Wound care
ECG
Asthma education
Lung function test
Ear syringing
Education for better chronic disease management
Advice & assistance with Enduring Power of
Guardianship and Advanced Health Directives
We ask that you contact the surgery about 3 working days following the tests being done, or as advised by your Doctor for the results of all of your tests.
If the Doctor has the results prior to that and they require you to return for follow-up then one of our reception staff will ring you and arrange an appointment.
It is practice policy to generally bulk bill patients when they return for test results.
It is in your best interest to see a Doctor whenever you need to have a script renewed. It is our policy that if all you require is a repeat prescription and that you tell the reception staff of this when booking the appointment you will be bulk billed.
A normal consult will be billed however, if there are any other issues discussed at the same time.

Women’s healthcare begins with encouragement and education when required to make healthy lifestyle choices and maintain optimum health.
Women’s healthcare we provide, includes;
Family planning
Fertility counseling
Sexual health and screening
Regular screening for PAP smears
Breast checks/self-examination/mammograms when appropriate
and later menopause management.
We also encourage regular screening for risk factors for heart disease,
osteoporosis, stroke and diabetes.
Men’s healthcare begins with encouragement and education, to make healthy lifestyle choices and maintain optimum health.
The men’s healthcare we provide includes;
Family planning options
Fertility counseling
Sexual health and screening
Regular screening for prostate screening
Routine screening for risk factors such as heart disease osteoporosis,
stroke and diabetes
Childhood immunisations protect them against many easily communicable diseases that are preventable. All the parents of young children in our practice are encouraged to immunise their children as per the schedule set out by Immunise Australia.
We also provide travel immunisations including Yellow Fever vaccines and Occupational health immunisations, including Q Fever vaccines.
Comprehensive and individualised care planning enables the practice to develop a co-ordinated approach to your managing your chronic disease especially when there are multiple care providers involved.
Chronic conditions include;
Diabetes
Hypertension
Osteoporosis
Arthritis
& Chronic pain to name a few.
They will be established at the discretion of the Doctor. Some patients with care plans may be eligible for some assistance with subsidised allied health provider services.
As a practice we encourage parents to bring their children in for 3-4 year old health check.
This includes monitoring for development and reaching normal milestones and readiness for school by screening hearing, visual acuity, co-ordination and gross and fine motor skills.
A comprehensive annual health check is recommended for all patients over 75 years.
These are recommended as a way of identifying any health issues early so that we may
put resources in place to optimise health outcomes and enable patients to stay in
their own homes for longer.

Nutrition
Medications,
Exercise
Safety in the home
Depression and memory
Includes AMSA medicals , police medicals , armed forces, CAT railway and
pre-employment medicals these are all done by our GP’s and as we have an
onsite Pathology Department we are able to complete any required drug testing.
Our Doctors specialise in Occupational Health and are able to provide high quality
assessment , treatment , management and injury prevention including return to work
planning and prevention of further injuries.
